We won't make this beer again.

I mean, let's be honest. I thought it would be fun, and what a great concept beer, right? Make a Russian Imperial Stout with orange peel and do some wordplay on a name and end up with this high octane punch that would be fun to talk about.

Wrong.

In a word, this beer was trouble.

From the day we made it, it had some issue where it would not chill properly and something (orange peel perhaps) kept clogging the valves and lines. Not to mention it made substantially thicker and more viscous wort than we were expecting.

After finally getting it fermented (it stalled fermentation multiple times), it was still pretty darn cloyingly sweet albeit in the high alcohol range, likely again an orange side effect.

You could drink it as an after dinner drink, almost like a port wine. It was sweet and high alcohol and you really only wanted small quantities at a time.

Conceptually it was great, but we recommended using it as a way to kick up a Shadow's Shadow just a notch in a blend instead of drinking it on its own.

Anyway, much like its namesake, here's hoping we don't make this mistake again.
